Cape York Adventure - One Epic Journey.

26 days exploring Far North Queensland, tackling the Old Telegraph Track and discovering what makes Cape York one of Australia's greatest 4WD adventures.

One Epic Journey

There's something pretty special about packing up the 4WD, leaving the everyday routine behind and heading north towards one of Australia's most iconic destinations — Cape York.

With 26 days ahead of us, three very different 4WDs and around 6,500 kilometres to cover, we set off on an adventure that would take us from Queensland's coastal towns to remote outback tracks, challenging creek crossings and eventually the northernmost tip of mainland Australia.

Our convoy consisted of a Toyota N80 Hilux, a Ford F150 Raptor and a Land Rover Perentie. Three capable vehicles, each with their own strengths, ready to tackle whatever Far North Queensland had waiting for us.

The Journey North

Our adventure took us through Seventeen Seventy, Airlie Beach and Cairns before heading further north through Cooktown, Elim Beach and Musgrave Roadhouse.

As we pushed further into Cape York, the scenery changed dramatically. Sealed roads gave way to corrugated dirt highways, tropical rainforest and the unmistakable red dust that seems to find its way into absolutely everything.

We explored places like Hann River and Weipa before arriving at Bramwell Station, where the real adventure was about to begin.

Taking on the Old Telegraph Track

For anyone passionate about four-wheel driving, the Old Telegraph Track (OTT) is one of those bucket-list experiences.

We tackled the track over three days, navigating everything from steep clay descents and heavily rutted tracks to deep water crossings and challenging sandy exits.

Palm Creek, Gunshot, Cockatoo Creek, Sam's Creek and the infamous Nolan's Crossing all delivered their own challenges.

The northern section was particularly demanding, with eroded creek entries, deep wombat holes and sections where choosing the right line was everything.

At Nolan's Crossing, we dropped tyre pressures to around 8 PSI and carefully assessed the water before committing. With recovery gear ready and everyone working together, we made our way through.

Despite the challenging conditions, we completed the OTT without needing to use the winch.

Along the way, we camped beside beautiful creeks, enjoyed refreshing swims at Twin Falls and experienced the kind of remote camping that makes these adventures so memorable.

Reaching the Tip

After crossing the Jardine River by ferry, we finally made it to the top of Australia.

We based ourselves around Punsand Bay and Loyalty Beach, exploring Seisia, Bamaga and the surrounding coastline.

Standing at the northernmost tip of mainland Australia was a pretty special moment, but looking back, getting there was just as memorable as the destination itself.

More Than Just the Destination

Our return journey included Chilli Beach, Restoration Island and more incredible scenery before eventually making our way south.

Looking back, 26 days gave us a fantastic opportunity to experience Cape York, although we'd probably spend a little less time around the Tip and more time exploring some of the incredible places along the way.

Cape York is one of those adventures that reminds you why we love four-wheel driving. It's about the tracks, the challenges, the people you meet and the places you discover when you're willing to venture a little further.

Three 4WDs. 26 days. 6,500 kilometres. Countless memories.

And plenty of reasons to start planning the next adventure.
